SHRM certifications are among the most recognized certifications in the Human Resources world today. Organized by the Society for Human Resource Management, the certifications have gained ground in the global space over the years and currently rank top of the human resource certifications. SHRM is an international boy that boasts loads of human resource professionals across the globe. The certifications are mainly designed to validate candidates’ knowledge of the basis of human resource management.

With all the buzz about SHRM seen to be worth it, this post takes a look at how much the certifications go for in Nigeria today. We will also consider some core facts to note about the certification. Shall we begin!

SHRM Certification Cost in Nigeria Today

The Society for Human Resource Management offers two main types of certification – the SHRM-CP and the SHRM-SCP. Like for many other certifying bodies, the respective examination is cheaper for members of the association. For members of the association, the standard examination fee for the examination is $375, which equates to about N180, 000 (with exchange rate of N480 per dollar). It should be noted that this charge includes a non-refundable $75 (N36, 000) standard deadline fee. There is a significant reduction in the amount for early bird registration. Members that meet the early bird registration pay $300, which equates to about N144, 000 (with exchange rate of N480 per dollar).

For non-members, the standard examination fees stand at $475, which equates to about N228, 000 (with exchange rate of N480 per dollar). It should be noted that this charge includes a non-refundable $75 (N36, 000) standard deadline fee. There is also a significant reduction in the amount for early bird registration. Members that meet the early bird registration pay $300, which equates to about N144, 000 (with exchange rate of N480 per dollar).

In addition, candidates are expected to Application Processing fee, which is usually included in the examination fees. This costs $50, which equates to N19, 200 (with exchange rate of N383.60 per dollar), for both members and non-members. In cases where candidates need to retake the teste, they are expected to pay the full examination fees as already highlighted above. Also, candidates can also apply for a rescore if they are not totally satisfied with their eventual after the examination. This costs an additional $50 per request, which equates to N24, 000 (with exchange rate of N480 per dollar), for both members and non-members.

Examination Requirements for the SHRM certification

For candidates that are looking to apply for the SHRM certifications, the very first process is the application. For one to apply for either SHRM examination, one of the core requirements is that the candidate must complete a minimum of 1000 hours of human resource work in a year preceding the examination. This means that the candidate must have a minimum of one year full time experience working as a human resource officer or similar job description before enrolling for the examination.

In addition to this requirement, candidates applying for the certifications are expected to have a minimum of three (3) years working experience in Human Resources role to take the SHRM CP exam if they have any degree less than bachelor’s degree. A minimum of six (6) years working experience is required if the candidate with less than bachelor’s degree is applying for the SHRM SCP certification.

Candidates with a bachelor’s degree however, require a minimum of one year working experience in Human Resources role to take the SHRM CP examination and require a minimum of four years relevant working experience to apply for the SHRM SCP certification. Likewise, a candidate with a graduate degree is expected to have a minimum of a year of relevant working experience or should hold a current HR role before they are qualified to take the SHRM CP examination, and require minimum of three years to be qualified to take the SHRM SCP examination.

Preparing for SHRM Examination in Nigeria

SHRM certifications are among the most rated HR certifications in the global space today. The examination is, although not entirely difficult, can be quite challenging and requires adequate preparation. Although there are cases where candidates have prepared for these examinations on their own, many have opted to register for training and classes to help them further prepare for the examination. There are many materials available for adequate preparation today. These materials include eBooks, videos, and many practice questions available to help candidates prepare for the examination. There are many of these materials available online to help students prepare

There are also many training institutes that organize training courses and cases for candidates to further help them prepare for the examinations. In many cases, thee training institutes provide helpful materials to candidates and organize both online and in-person classes. Many others even setup mock examinations to test the candidates’ readiness for the examination.

Some have also settled for online classes and lectures. With internet making a lot of resources available in recent times, many candidates have resolved to register for various online courses and classes to help boost their preparation. Just like in the case of in-person tutorials, some of these online channels also organize mock examinations to test the readiness of candidates subscribed to the channel.
