The new metering process in Nigeria is carried out by Meter Asset Providers(MAPs), these are companies licensed by regulators to procure and install prepaid meters for customers of electricity distribution companies in Nigeria.
IKEDC commenced the MAPs scheme in May 2019.
What is MAP
These are companies licensed by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to procure and install meters for customers of Electricity Distribution Companies under MAP regulation 2018.
IKEDC is responsible for meeting its metering gap as specified by NERC. it is also responsible for the timely disbursement of meters to customers and coordination of meter deployment within its franchise area.
How to apply for Ikeja Electric Prepaid Meter
Below are the steps to get a prepaid meter from Ikeja Electric;
- #Step 1. Visit IKEDC website
Visit the IKEDC website on map.ikejaelectric.com
- #Step 2. Enter your Meter Account Number
New customers are to enter their meter account to lookup their profile
- #Step 3. Complete the KYC Process
In this steps, IKEDC customers will need to complete/Update their details on the webpage to initiate the account survey process
- #Step 4. Debt Repayment Agreement
Customers are advised to pay thier outstanding bills by taking advantage of the various repayment option available. Also, outstanding balances can be rolled over into customer’s prepaid account and paid in installment in line with IKEDC’s repayment options.
- #Step 5. Meter Payment and Installation
All payments for the IKEDC Prepaid meters should be made into authorized bank accounts advised by the MAP. No customers should pay in cash for IKEDC prepaid meter to any individual
Ikeja Electricity Prepaid Meter is not free. In line with NERC customers are to pay for the prepaid meters either upfront or in installments. The installment option is by regulation referred to as the Monthly Metering Service Charge (MSC), Meter Service Charge is the monthly repayment of the cost of the ikeja electric prepaid meter over a period of time and will continue until full amortization of the meter asset cost as agreed with the MAPs.
Cost of Ikeja Electric Prepaid Meter
A single phase prepaid meter cost N38,850 while a three phase prepaid meter cost N70,350 VAT inclusive.
How Long does it take to get IKEDC Prepaid Meter
For customers who pay upfront, Prepaid Meters will be installed at the customers residence in within 10 working days. While customers who paid in installments will be metered in line with the MAPs installation schedule. After installation the activation process will then commence, this can take 2 working days
Customers who prefer not to get a prepaid meter, should note that the regulation stipulates that all un-metered customers must be metered under the MAPs scheme and un-metered customers will be denied service by their DISCO.
IKEDC customers with outstanding dues on their postpaid bills are advised to take advantage of the various repayment options during KYC process. If a customer has outstanding balances, it can be rolled over into the customer prepaid account and paid in installments in line with Ikeja Electric Installment Plan.
Note that customers are NOT allowed to removed their prepaid meters from their location. In cases whereby a customer relocates to another apartment after paying for an IKEDC prepaid meter, the customer is to contact the DISCO(Ikeja electric), once notified, IKEDC will transfer the service to the new location including the credit on the customer’s account.
