TV Presenting is one of the most coveted profession in the media industry today. While the salary for professionals in this field have not been very encouraging compared to the energy they put into it, lots of people still find joy and fulfilment in the profession. One reason to be positive about this field though, is that the world today would not be where it is without it and a lot of other professions rely heavily on the field. This factor states the importance of mass communication to developing countries.

While most of the TV companies in Nigeria do not reveal the exact amount they pay their television presenters, Nigerian television presenters salaries generally depend on two main factors which include the years of experience of the Presenter and the status of the television company. Also, factors like the number of glued and active viewers of the particular TV shows have one or two to do with how much they are paid.

As it stands, TV Presenters in Nigeria earn between N70, 000 and N 150, 000 depending on the factors already discussed above. It should be noted that in most cases, this estimate excludes feeding and wardrobe allowances.

How to become a TV presenter in Nigeria

This perhaps, is one of the most simple topics to discuss in when it comes to the TV presenting profession. This is because there is no one answer to this. Generally, you do not have to study a particular course in a particular field to become a presenter, although there are certain courses that make you a better presenter and teaches you more about the field. Here are the basic steps to take if you want to become a professional in the field.

  • Be Certified: Usually, TV Presenting does not require a particular course of study although people that study/studied Mass Communications and English have upper hand in the field. This is because people studying (or the studied) these courses learn a lot more about the field and are most times, better equipped to excel in the field. That being said, any graduate with required degree can go into the field. You are required to have the compulsory SSCE certificate with at least a credit pass in the major course including English, Mathematics and three other core subjects, which could include economics, accounting, and similar subjects. You then strive to be admitted in a University or Polytechnic to study Mass Communications, English, Languages or any other related course by writing the required UTME examination and getting required cut-off mark. Normally, the duration for the course is 3 – 4 years depending on the institution. As stated, it is important to note that the course you study in school does not restrict you from being a television presenter in most cases.
  • National Youth Service Corps: NYSC is a one-year service year where you are expected to serve your motherland. Usually, graduates of English, mass Communications and other related courses are posted to media houses, where they are opportune to work with professionals in the field.
