There are two different meanings you should know before discussing about the list of hypoglycemic herbs and health benefits. The first is what hypoglycemic is and second, what hypoglycemic herbs are.


What Is Hypoglycemic?

Hypoglycemic is a condition when someone is suffering from low level of blood sugar. The symptoms of hypoglycemic are including hunger, trembling, nausea, and excessive sweating. This condition is commonly occur during diabetes treatment, weight loss program and quite rare to be suffered by people in normal condition. Though generally there are a lot of factors that could cause someone suffering from low blood sugar level.

What Are Hypoglycemic Herbs?

Hypoglycemic herbs are type of herbs that could help someone lowering the level of blood sugar. These types of herbs are commonly used as side treatment for diabetic patients, especially patients diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

In other words, hypoglycemic herbs are not for someone who is suffering from hypoglycemic because the effect is instead of curing the condition is worsening the condition. One more thing to remember when using hypoglycemic herbs as diabetic treatment is supposed to be under professional supervisor to avoid negative interaction with the current medication treatment. If someone has been taking medication to lower blood sugar level is not recommended to take any hypoglycemic herbs anymore. Below is the list of hypoglycemic herbs you should take if you want to lower your blood sugar level or herbs you should avoid if you have taken specific medication to treat your diabetic condition.

  1. Fenugreek

Fenugreek seeds are commonly used as spices while the leaves used as herbs and tea. Some studies have stated that a cup of fenugreek tea contains some properties with hypoglycemic effect because among the long list of health benefits of fenugreek tea is to lower the blood sugar level.

  1. Gracinia Kola

Gracinia kola is also well known as bitter kola and one of the main health benefits of bitter kola is to lower the blood sugar level. This fruit is originated from Africa and the local people are commonly consumed by mothers during pregnancy because the hypoglycemic content found in this herb could help preventing gestational diabetes in pregnant mothers.

Cayenne pepper has spicy flavor that could help improving someone’s appetite. Even the most boring meal could be tasty when consumed with cayenne pepper.   1. Atis Leaves

Atis tree is another name of sugar apple and the health benefits of atis leaves for diabetes have been proven scientifically through several scientific studies. The atis leaves contain potent anti-diabetic properties that could act as hypoglycemic herbs to help managing the blood sugar level.

  1. Neem Leaves

Neem leaves originated from India and has been part of Ayuverdic medicine since ancient time. The reason why neem leaves are great for diabetes is because it contains flavonoid, the antioxidant content that is great to manage blood sugar level.

The best thing to manage the blood sugar level is by controlling the daily diet and doing regular exercises. Those list of hypoglycemic herbs and health benefits are only used when needed only though consuming some herbs like ginger and garlic regularly is highly recommended as long as you consume it in proper amount to help maintaining the blood sugar in normal level. However, herbs with stronger hypoglycemic effect should be avoided when it is not really needed.
