Let’s face it, registering for OET exams is quite costly. Currently, it costs about AUD587 (Australian Dollars) to write this examination in Nigeria. When you convert this to naira, it is about N150,000. This is pretty high when you compare the cost with the costs of other English Language examinations.
Which Professionals Can Write OET in Nigeria?
This English Language examination is designed for professionals in the medical sector. Currently, there are 12 professions that can write this examination. We have put together a list below showing the different professions:

OET Registration and Exam Pattern
If you will like to write the OET Exam, then you need to register for it. The first step of registration is to visit the official OET exam registration website. You can only register online. After visiting this website, create an account to get your login details. Once you are done with this, you can continue with the registration process.
The examination covers the four English Language skills and it focuses on communication within the healthcare environment. Check below for the examination format:
- Listening: The duration for this skill is 45 minutes and it is divided into three parts to test listening abilities in different formats.
- Reading: This skill has a duration of 60 minutes and it is also divided into three parts to test reading abilities in different capacities.
- Writing: The duration for this skill is 45 minutes and it is profession-specific. Candidates are required to write a reference letter in this section.
- Speaking: This is the final language skill and it takes just 20 minutes. It is also profession-specific and requires role play from the candidate.
OET Grading and Accessing Results
After completing the test, you receive numerical scores for each of the language sections. The scores range from 0 to 500 and it has 10-point increments. All the scores are mapped into separate letter grades from A to E with A being the highest and E the lowest.
The results of the OET exam are releases approximately after two weeks of writing the exam. To access your results, you only need to log into your account on the OET website.
OET Exam Preparation and Exams Date in Nigeria
Preparing for the OET examination is quite easy. This is because OET has provided its candidates with a preparation portal. The portal provides access to several hours of free practice resources. Also, there are several social media groups especially on Whatsapp, Telegram, and Facebook that help with preparation.
The date of the next OET exam in Nigeria isn’t fixed yet. However, once you register for the exam, you should get a notification about the next examination date.
